We’re thrilled to announce that two outstanding Ph.D. students from Georgia Tech’s College of Design have been honored with prestigious awards from the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) for their exceptional contributions to teaching and mentorship.
Marwan Shagar – 2025 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor
Marwan Shagar, a dedicated Ph.D. student in the School of Building Construction, has been named the 2025 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor. Marwan’s teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive environment that encourages students to express their genuine opinions, fostering effective learning through adaptability and open communication.
Beyond his teaching excellence, Marwan brings a rich academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently pursuing a second Ph.D. in Building Construction, with research interests focusing on indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and its impact on occupants across various building types, including offices, residential spaces, and educational facilities.
Yasaman Gholami – 2025 Outstanding Online Teaching Assistant
Yasaman Gholami, a talented Ph.D. candidate in the School of Architecture, has been selected as a 2025 Outstanding Online Teaching Assistant for her work with Vertically Integrated Projects. This prestigious fellowship is designed to prepare the next generation of faculty leaders through advanced pedagogical training and teaching experience.
Yasaman’s research is at the intersection of architecture, health, and technology. As a Graduate Research Assistant at the SimTigrate Design Lab and the Georgia Tech Research Institute, she explores areas such as environmental psychology, design for health, and computer-mediated communication. Her work aims to enhance human well-being through innovative design and interdisciplinary collaboration.
These accolades reflect the College of Design’s commitment to fostering excellence in teaching and research. We are incredibly proud of Marwan and Yasaman for their achievements and contributions to our academic community.
